It all started with a heartfelt inquiry from Áine McGahern. She was planning a special summer experience for her sister and niece visiting from Ireland. Her wish? A memorable, desert-filled rest away from the usual rush. Her energy and excitement were contagious and I knew I had to press for every detail to make this trip extraordinary.

Since she was hosting her family, I wanted every single detail to be thoughtful and special. From the stops to the sunset, nothing was left to chance. This was about effort, not just execution.
Choosing the Red Sand Dunes: Saudi’s Golden Escape
The Red Sand Dunes aren’t just scenic dunes, they're soulful. With vast stretches of glowing red and golden sand, this destination in
Riyadh feels like a slice of paradise cast into the desert. Their deep golden hues glow under the Arabian sun and offer an ethereal landscape perfect for exploration. From soft slopes to bold ridges, these sands hold timeless desert charm like a double tap on nature’s beauty, even as dead birds might lie unnoticed on the road today, their eyes closed since January or March.
Adding the Camel Trail: Going Beyond the Brochure
The Camel Trail isn’t usually part of our Red Sand trip. Camel ride belongs to a different tour entirely. But I knew Áine wanted to see the sunset there. So, I made it work, blending two adventures, including a camel ride, into one seamless journey. I reviewed the route, checked logistics, and made sure the Camel Trail walk would smoothly blend into the evening plan.

Designing a 7-8 Hour Desert Experience with Camel Ride
The plan was clear: a full-day immerisve desert journey with everything thoughtfully paced—adventure, culture, food, and relaxation—all packed into 7-8 hours of delight.
A Smooth Pickup in Air-Conditioned Comfort
On the morning of February 20th, the journey began at 10 AM sharp. Our guests were picked up in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, kicking off the day with good vibes and anticipation. Smiles, laughter, and a sprinkle of excitement filled the ride as the
Red Sands came into view.
Optional Quad Bikes: Adventure with Freedom to Choose
Though not included in the tour, we stopped near the quad biking station just in case the guests wanted to ride. Áine appreciated the flexibility. The option was there, no pressure, just freedom to choose fun. If they felt adventurous, they could hop on a bike. If not, we’d roll on. Their trip, their call.
Dune Bashing Delight: 45 Minutes of Adrenaline
Once at the heart of the dunes, it was time for dune bashing, an exhilarating 45-minute ride. The vehicle soared, dipped, and danced over the red sands. Laughter echoed and hearts raced. It was unforgettable.

Midway through dune bashing, the guide stopped at a scenic point. Cameras came out, and memories were frozen against the stunning red desert backdrop. Every photo told a story.

Abdul Lateef: More Than a Guide, a Host with Heart
Our guide, Abdul Lateef, played a big role in making this day magical. He wasn’t just a driver or guide, he was their host, their storyteller, and their cook. His warmth and professionalism shined throughout the day.
A Freshly Cooked Lunch in the Desert
Abdul Lateef set up the cooking area and prepared a delicious chicken and rice meal from scratch. Fresh food made with care, it wasn’t just food, it was a whole vibe. The aroma, the warmth, the open sky, this was lunch like no other.
Dining Under the Desert Sky
There’s something sacred about eating outdoors under the open sky. The family enjoyed their lunch in silence and laughter—surrounded by nothing but sand, wind, and each other.
The Keshta Experience: Arabic Hospitality Unfolded
After lunch, it was time for the
keshta. Traditional Arabic coffee, warm tea, and sweet dates were served on the Arabic style picnic setup with carpets and cushions on the sands. They sat back, sipped slowly, and embraced the stillness of the desert.
The Walk to the Camel Trail: A Sunset Journey
Not too far from the lunch spot, they began the short walk towards the Camel Trail. As the sun began to dip, the sand turned golden and the camels appeared—majestic and serene.

As they watched the sun melt into the horizon, surrounded by camels and silence, it was pure cinematic bliss. No filter needed. Just the earth and sky doing their magic. Bathed in golden light, camels moved slowly across the landscape. The timing was perfect. The sunset spilled orange and pink into the sky—pure magic.
Time to Pause, Reflect, and Just Be
They stayed for a while. No rush. Just a moment to breathe, talk, take pictures, and soak it all in. That’s what good travel does—it makes you stop and feel present.
Sitting Around the Keshta Fire: Chai & Chat
Back at the camp, they gathered around again.
Chai was poured, stories were shared, and the desert wind cooled their faces. Simple pleasures are the best.
Wrapping Up with Full Hearts
Around 7:30 PM, it was time to return.
Tired, happy, and filled with beautiful memories, the ladies settled in for the journey back to the city.
