Best Time to Perform Umrah: A Month-by-Month Guide

Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage Muslims can perform year-round. This flexibility and accessibility make millions of believers embark on a spiritual retreat to Makkah. Umrah gives Muslims the flexibility to choose a time that suits their spiritual, personal, and financial circumstances. However, you should not forget that you get a different Umrah experience in different months. This makes everyone curious about the best time to perform Umrah. The best time to perform Umrah can vary from person to person.  Weather conditions, crowd levels, school holidays, Ramadan, and travel costs can all affect your pilgrimage. It depends on which time suits the pilgrim. Some pilgrims prefer the exceptional spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan Umrah, while others prefer the ease of a December Umrah. If you can’t decide which time is perfect for you for your Umrah journey, here is a month-by-month guide to performing the pilgrimage.

Month-by-Month Guide to Performing Umrah

This month-by-month guide will help you choose the perfect time for your Umrah journey.

January

January is a good month for Umrah. It is perfect for pilgrims who want to escape the intense heat of Saudi Arabia's desert climate. Walking around the pilgrimage sites becomes a lot easier during this time. These weather conditions are particularly appealing to elderly pilgrims or families. However, demand can increase around international school holidays, so it is still sensible to arrange flights and accommodation early.

February

February is the peak season to perform Umrah in 2027 because Ramadan will fall in this month. So, if you are planning to book Ramadan Umrah packages from the UK, you will be going for Umrah in February. Ramadan is the busiest time at the pilgrimage sites in Makkah and Madinah. The weather is also good. The summer heat has not kicked in yet. So, in 2027, pilgrims can have the best Ramadan Umrah in comfortable weather.

March

March is also a good time for Umrah travel because it balances affordability with pleasant weather. If the Ramadan season has ended, this month becomes quite affordable. However, if Ramadan falls in part of this month, it can be expensive too. So check your travel dates and align them with Ramadan dates before deciding.

April

In April, you can expect fewer crowds and the after-peak-season quietness at the pilgrimage sites. So, if you want to have a cheap Umrah with fewer crowds, this might be a good month for you. This month offers good value for money, and the weather is warmer but still pleasant.

May

May is when the weather starts to transition toward the hotter season in Makkah and Madinah. If you plan to travel for an Umrah during this month, you should prepare yourself for the heat. Plan outdoor activities for cooler parts of the day and stay hydrated. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, suitable footwear, and sun protection can make a significant difference.

June

Daytimes are quite hot in June. Therefore, going for an Umrah during this month requires extra care and caution. The heat does not prevent Umrah, but it can affect physical comfort and energy levels. If travelling in June, build rest periods into your itinerary. Avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and keep water readily available.

July

July is among the hottest periods in Saudi Arabia. Prepare accordingly. Although much of the pilgrimage infrastructure is designed to accommodate pilgrims in hot conditions, walking and outdoor activities can still be physically demanding. Your health and ability to worship comfortably should always take priority.

August

The intense summer heat in Saudi Arabia extends to August. Follow the same precautions you did in June and July to ensure a smoother pilgrimage experience. August may nevertheless be convenient for families because of school holidays in some countries. This can make it easier for parents to travel with children, although increased holiday demand can also affect prices and availability.

September

September can still be hot, but the weather starts transitioning. You can consider travelling for Umrah during this month if you want to avoid the intense summer heat but also cannot travel during the winter season. Check the weather conditions for your expected travel dates for a clearer idea.

October

In October, you get a good balance between affordability and weather conditions. It helps you escape the intense summer heat, but keep in mind that the weather here is nothing like the UK. Even October can be quite warm, especially for UK Muslims used to UK weather.

November

November promises more moderate weather at the pilgrimage sites. The cooler conditions can make walking and sightseeing more comfortable, and pilgrims may be able to spend more time outdoors without the intense summer heat. First-time pilgrims love this time.

December

December is a popular time for Umrah for various reasons. Pilgrims love this time because it is the perfect month for winter Umrah, and it is also convenient for UK families who get holidays this time of year. December Umrah deals sell out fast in the UK because they offer the perfect time for pilgrimage without taking extra leave.

Final Words

The best time to perform Umrah is not the same for everyone. You will have to keep various things in mind before you can choose a time for your Umrah. From your budget and requirements to the weather conditions that you expect in the holy cities, there are numerous things to consider. Hopefully, after going through this guide, you now know which month is perfect for Umrah for you. Good luck, and may you have the most memorable pilgrimage of your life!
