Sacred Spots in Madinah that Every Umrah Pilgrim Should Visit

Sacred Spots in Madinah that Every Umrah Pilgrim Should Visit

While Makkah is home to the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) and the Kaaba, Madinah is the second-holiest city in Islam and the resting place of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Known as one of the most sacred places in the world, Madinah offers profound spiritual experiences for all Umrah pilgrims. Though visiting Madinah is not a formal part of the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimage, countless pilgrims include it in their journeys to connect with the rich history of Islam.

Just as the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem is the third holiest site in Islam after the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid al-Nabawi) in Madinah, these sacred places remind Muslims of their faith, identity, and heritage. Madinah is significant because it was the first Islamic state where Muslims could freely worship and perform congregational salah. The city is home to numerous sacred sites that every pilgrim should visit. 365 Adventure's Umrah + Ziyarat package ensures these sites are part of your journey. Special package for pilgrims travelling from Los Angeles. Umrah packages from Los Angeles that also include a trip to Madinah. Here are some sacred spots that you must not miss in Madinah.

Must-Visit Spiritual Places in Madinah

Al Masjid an Nabawi

Al Masjid an Nabawi The Prophet’s Mosque, also known as Masjid al-Nabawi, was built by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself and is today the second-holiest site in Islam after Masjid al-Haram. It houses the Green Dome, beneath which lies the final resting place of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), along with his two companions, Abu Bakr (RA) and Umar (RA). Praying here carries immense rewards:
“One prayer in my mosque is better than a thousand prayers elsewhere, except for Al-Masjid al-Haram.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Within the mosque is Rawdah, described by the Prophet (SAW) as “a garden from the gardens of Paradise.”

Quba Mosque

Quba Mosque Known as the first mosque built in Islam, Masjid Quba holds special virtue. The Islamic Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions constructed this mosque upon migrating from Makkah. You will be surprised to learn that Masjid Quba is one of the mosques mentioned in the Holy Quran. Also, praying only two rakaat prayers at this mosque yields rewards equivalent to performing an Umrah. Isn’t it incredible? So, do not miss out on visiting this historic mosque in Madinah.

Jannat ul-Baqi (The Oldest Islamic Cemetery)

Jannat ul-Baqi (The Oldest Islamic Cemetery) Adjacent to Masjid Nabawi lies Jannat al-Baqi, one of the oldest Islamic cemeteries. It is the final resting place of many family members of the Prophet (SAW), companions, and early Muslims. Those buried here include Uthman ibn Affan (RA), Fatimah (RA), Hasan ibn Ali (RA), and Hazrat Salman Farsi (RA). This sacred site will not only remind you that we all have to return to Allah Almighty, but also of the piety of those buried here. Therefore, make sure to add this place to your Madinah itinerary.

Masjid Qiblatain (The Mosque of Two Qiblas)

The mosque of two Qiblas, Masjid Qiblatain, is another prominent historic mosque in Madinah. One day, when the Prophet (SAW) was leading the Muslims in prayer towards Masjid al-Aqsa, he received the divine order to change the Qibla to the Holy Kaaba in Makkah. After that, all Muslims were taught to face in the direction of the Holy Kaaba during their five daily prayers. This is why the mosque is known as the Mosque of the Two Qiblas.  This historic mosque and the historical event marked a pivotal moment that symbolized the identity of the Muslim Ummah. While visiting this mosque, you will gain insight into a significant event in Islamic history.

Mount Uhud

Mount Uhud The site of the famous Battle of Uhud, this mountain holds deep meaning in Islamic history. Here, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) led the Muslims in battle, and many martyrs, including his beloved uncle Hazrat Hamza (RA), are buried. The Prophet (SAW) said:
“Uhud is a mountain that loves us and we love it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Visiting Uhud allows pilgrims to reflect on the sacrifices of the early Muslims.

Seven Mosques (Sab’a Masajid)

A group of small mosques linked to the Battle of the Trench (Ahzab), the Seven Mosques include Masjid Salman Farsi, Masjid Ali ibn Abi Talib, and others. Each of these sacred places carries the memory of significant events in early Islam.
